After graduating from a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship and International Development, Thierry Benlahsen started his career on the ground with a Lebanese NGO (Arcenciel) in 2005. He joined SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL for the first time in 2008 in South Soudan as a Finance and Administrative Coordinator. “A revealing experience, in an extremely difficult context. That was a decisive point in my will to commit on the long term with the populations we try to serve every day.”
He multiplied missions for the NGO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, Mali, and worked for two years with Handicap International on the Syrian crisis, before returning to SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL as head of the emergency team in 2015 and then Director of Operations in 2017, a position he will hold until 2021.
He joins the Board in September 2021, then the Steering Committee in June 2023, continuing his commitment this time within the associative governance.
“SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has always been committed to the most vulnerable populations, in areas where access is difficult, in changing environments. Today the association renews with its commitment to proximity, authenticity and singularity in an international context where humanitarian aid is often used for political purposes. Whatever are the issues the humanitarian sector would have to face, we will not compromise our humanitarian principle of humanity aimed at the most marginalized people, which is at the roots of the association created more than 40 years ago.”
