SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers - intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

Following the outbreak of the conflict in April 2023 and forced evacuation of Khartoum and West Darfur (El Geneina), SI was the first international NGO to re-enter Darfur and resume its emergency response.

About the job
General objective:
The Emergency coordinator, as technical advisor of the mission, contributes to the development of Solidarités
International strategy by designing and proposing an operational Emergency strategy for Ukraine. He/she specifically
guarantees the quality and suitability of proposed operational approaches and ensures the appropriateness of the
Emergency approach in the frame of general SI objectives and needs of the local populations.
The Emergency Coordinator is accountable for the follow up of project cycle from the projects design, Proposal drafting
as well as the operational monitoring of emergency activities implemented in the frame of the Ukrainian crisis. The
Emergency coordinator is the functional line manager of the Basic needs, Cash and Emergency PMs, and support them
in the implementation of their activities.
He/she contributes to the process of capitalization and the improvement of Solidarités International methods and
techniques in the field.
The emergency sector is covering all distributions activities (in kind, cash or voucher aiming at providing household- or
individual- level assistance to Ukrainian populations living in frontline areas, or areas directly affected by hostilities, or
who have been displaced following a shock. The emergency sector also covers response to any unpredictable natural or
man-made events that could trigger a spike in humanitarian needs.
The main challenges:
The job requires opening new areas, going into new or less support areas independently and leading a team too. conflict, language and many other complexity would appear. In the field the amenities would be almost minimal. Strong mental resilience is essential.
Priorities for the 2/3 first months:
Support the East Darfur and Kordofan initiative, Review and suggest ERM strategy for Central Darfur/ South Darfur, Proposal and reporting support for specific projects.
Security constraints:
In Ndjamena, the situation is relatively calm, although caution is required. In Sudan, the situation is extremely volatile, and a strict adherence to security rules is mandatory.

Bachelor or masters in a related degree . A first experience working with an informatio management position is required. Experience with SI is highly desirable. |

SI will offer you
A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 EUR base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 750.
SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.
Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.
Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
LIVING CONDITIONS:
The coordination team is based in N'Djamena. The post-holder will be living in a shared appartment, with electricity and internet 24h/7. The city of N'Djamena offers a wide range of leisure facilities (gyms, bars, restaurants, cultural institute, riverside walks, etc.) and a large expatriate community. The Grant Manager may be expected to visit the bases in Darfur. There, the GH are of good standard, with fluctuant internet connexion, solar panels and running water point. Social life is limited to contact with other NGO staff, with a curfew.
However, when going on the field bases, living conditions are more basic, with fewer opportunities for socialization, as well as some individual movements’ restrictions. Security levels vary according to the different geographical locations and changes of context.
