Jonathan Brooker has extensive and diverse experience working in disasters and conflicts with the United Nations, news media and international non-governmental organisations in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He has a strong background in assessment and analysis, strategic planning, resource mobilisation, communications, policy and advocacy. He holds a Theology degree from Oxford University and a Masters in International Law, both of which he strongly believes have helped him in his humanitarian work.
Jonathan is returning to SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL after 10 years, his first role with SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL being a Deputy Head of Mission in Darfur, Sudan, a mission that strongly influenced his career and shaped his approach to humanitarian work. He says he is ‘happy to be returning to the SI family and be working with a frontline, field focused, direct implementing NGO, and with committed, competent, hardworking and ambitious colleagues’.
Jonathan is the Head of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL UK (SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL UK), the UK branch of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL.
Frontline, field focused, direct implementing organisations like SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL are critical in every humanitarian response I have seen, but particularly when responding to humanitarian needs as a result of conflict or violence. For me Solidarites International is an organisation filled with purpose, energy, a ‘can-do’ attitude, technical competence and deep feelings of solidarity with people affected by disasters and crises. I have returned to SI to help drive the organisation forward and to continue supporting people in need with high quality, relevant and effective assistance.”
