Professor Mona Baker et al., elected “Linguists of the Year” by the readers of Inttranews for their work “Translating Dissent: Voices from and with the Egyptian Revolution”, a unique volume of essays on the importance of translation in our time, have decided to donate their prize money to SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL.
Each year, the laureate of the Inttranews “Linguists of the Year” is given the opportunity to choose a charity or NGO to donate their prize money. The total amount granted by the prize sponsors this year is 1000€.For Professor Baker, “SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is an ideal choice to receive the prize money of an award obtained through a militant project involving contributors who are highly committed in protest movements. The collection itself is a book about solidarity, and is an act of solidarity” in its own right.”
“SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is particularly honored to have been designated to receive the amount of the prize granted to Mona Baker, notably because the translation of our documents is of capital importance. The organisation and its members wish to thank Professor Baker for this gesture of solidarity toward the most vulnerable populations that our teams support each day in some 20 countries around the world for more than 35 years.”
Renaud Douci, Director of Communication and Development at SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL
