Emergency in the Middle East: SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL on the front line in Lebanon

Published on Wednesday 4 March 2026

[Paris, March 4, 2026] As the Middle East continues to burn, the humanitarian situation is deteriorating daily. In Lebanon, one of the conflict’s hotspots, tens of thousands of people are fleeing bombings and fightingleaving everything behind us. In response to this emergency, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s teams have been mobilised quickly and are already providing assistance to those impacted.

Lebanon has been hit by intensive bombing and ground operations in the south of the country for three days now. The number of people forced to flee their homes continues to grow: yesterday, 50,000 people had already registered in collective reception centers. But this figure does not include the thousands of others who are seeking refuge with family or friends, or who are still looking for shelter.

We must remember that 18 months ago, the Lebanese population was already forced to flee the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. And now here they are on the road again,” laments Colin Rehel, Regional Director at SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL.

Despite being affected by evacuation orders and strikes, the NGO’s teams remain fully operational. They have distributed hygiene kits to new arrivals in four collective reception centers in Saïda, a large coastal city south of Beirut. “These kits contain items such as shampoo, toothpaste, soap and sanitary products. Thanks to them, refugees can meet their immediate hygiene needs in a context of high promiscuity, where health risks are high,” explains Daniele Regazzi, the Country Director on site. Mattresses, blankets, and other essential items will be distributed in the coming days. SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is also preparing to support the growing number of people arriving in the north of the country over the next 24 hours.

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has been present in the Middle East for more than 20 years, including in Iraq, Lebanon, Gaza, Syria and Yemen. As the situation evolves every hour, the organisation is closely monitoring developments and stands ready to increase its response if necessary.
