Afghanistan: SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL temporarily interrupts its activities

Published on Tuesday 27 December 2022

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL deeply regrets the recent ban on women humanitarian workers announced on December, 24th 2022 by the de facto authorities of Afghanistan. Under the current circumstances and until clarity is given on this announcement, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has decided to enforce a temporary interruption of its activities.

Indeed, we are not able to deliver quality and inclusive aid to the Afghan population without our female colleagues. Women are essential to our provision of humanitarian aid in the country. Especially, our colleagues on the field allow us to engage with the most vulnerable women and girls at community level, an absolute requirement to understand their specific needs and to adjust our support accordingly, while respecting the cultural norms prevailing in the country.

In the coming days and weeks, Solidarités International will actively contribute to the advocacy work of the humanitarian community, promoting constructive solutions to resume operations with women’s active participation.

Today, as for the past 42 years since its creation in Afghanistan, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL remains fully committed to deliver timely and quality humanitarian assistance to all women, men, girls and boys of Afghanistan who need it.
