The Communauté d’Agglomération de Bourges Plus (municipal community of Bourges Plus) has chosen to work alongside SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL by utilizing the mechanism of the 1% contribution scheme under the Oudin-Santini law, in order to support our NGO’s mission in Haiti.
With its 16 municipalities, the Communauté d’Agglomération de Bourges Plus has been supporting SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s actions in Haiti since 2013.
Following the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010, destroying most of the housing and infrastructures in Port-au-Prince, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL set up an urban development project in the Christ-Roi district.
In this district, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is rehabilitating the water and sanitation networks in a bid to bring sustainable improvements to people’s living conditions. Almost 20,000 Haitians have benefitted from this scheme, co-funded by the Communauté d’Agglomération de Bourges Plus. Since 2012, this work has focused on improving access to water and sanitary conditions in the area, by rebuilding or repairing semi-collective sanitation solutions, raising locals’ awareness of good hygiene practices and implementing waste collection schemes. The program also comprises activities designed to boost the capacities of both public (Direction Nationale de l’Eau Potable et de l’Assainissement, a public body responsible for the network) and private (retailers, entrepreneurs, etc.) players.
