South Sudan

South Sudan has gone through a period of great political instability, which has had economic, social, and health implications.

The political conflict has led to the displacement of populations, who have concentrated around the largest cities. Resources, which were already very limited in this arid region, are largely insufficient to meet the needs of the displaced and their host communities.

The situation is worrying in many regions and cities of Southern Sudan: in Aburoc in Upper Nile State, in the camps of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, in Nyriol County, in the region of Juba, the capital located in Central Equatoria State. Everywhere, the populations are vulnerable and are facing the consequences of the armed conflicts that have long affected the country. The territory is also very exposed because of the climate mixing aridity and floods. These various crises are making the country more fragile and increasing the vulnerability of the population, which is dependent on humanitarian aid.

In the field, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is implementing a global response focused on the emergency and medium term.

Efforts are focused on access to water, sanitation and hygiene and on food security. The teams work in partnership with a health actor to rapidly improve the nutritional status of populations affected by crises.

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL also implements a multisectoral response with water facilities, hygiene promotion and health protection, particularly in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic and the risk of cholera or Ebola spreading. Teams also support health centers to ensure safe and sustainable health infrastructures.
