Myanmar has faced internal conflict since 1948, when it declared independence.

In 2011, 17 years after the ceasefire agreement, conflict resumed in Kachin State between the Burmese Army and the Kachin Independence Army. 100,000 people have been displaced. After several years, people are reluctant to return. Indeed, people are not guaranteed access to land and livelihoods.

At the same time, in 2012, conflicts broke out between Muslim and Buddhist communities in Rakhine State. Violence in this poor, disaster-prone state is intense.

Displaced people living in Myanmar, whether they are from Kachin or Rakhine, are very dependent on humanitarian aid. They have a constant need for water, food, but also for sustainable services such as education.

On the ground, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has made drinking water, sanitation and hygiene a priority, given the extremely difficult sanitary conditions in which the people live. In addition, emergency shelters are being set up for people who have fled the violence and left everything behind.

In addition, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL teams are putting in place long-term support solutions. Income-generating activities such as market gardening and chicken farming are being developed. The populations can thus regain their independence through a job or an activity.
