In Mali, the situation is unstable and dangerous in the north and center, as well as in the border areas with Niger and Burkina Faso.

The center of the country has seen an increase in violence due to armed groups and traffickers, all of whom are very dangerous. People have been forced to flee. Return is not an option given the continued insecurity and limited livelihoods.

At the same time, in the west, communities are affected by multiple epidemics: yellow fever, cholera, measles, meningitis, malaria… In addition to these health problems, natural or climatic constraints are recurrent, such as floods, landslides or droughts.

In these regions, the government is not able to restore access to basic services such as water, healthcare or schooling. In this context, the people of Mali are very dependent on humanitarian aid. The needs are numerous, from access to water and food to access to safe shelter.

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is focusing its efforts on improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene. Infrastructure in these vulnerable regions is being rebuilt, particularly in health centers. Training is also being conducted to raise awareness of the importance of water and nutrition, with the aim of improving behaviors in the long term.

A sustainable response mechanism to food insecurity is also being put in place. Agricultural tools are distributed to the population and training sessions are set up so that communities can cover their nutritional needs on their own.

Finally, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s teams participate in the overall improvement of living conditions and social cohesion between the various communities.
