In France, Covid-19 has made already marginalized populations, such as the homeless and people living in slums, more vulnerable.

Most often, men, women and children living in slums do not have safe access to water. Access is difficult or non-existent. People may have to walk several kilometers to reach a water point and collect water for the day. Access to sanitary products is also very limited.

In the context of the global pandemic, these ongoing difficulties have been accentuated. The risks of contamination are also greater. Awareness-raising messages about barrier measures and hand washing are multiplying. However, these gestures are far from simple for these populations. Therefore, these sanitary conditions and proximity raise fears of a rapid spread of Covid-19 and other diseases.

Thus, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is deployed in various French regions and cities. The beneficiary public, already marginalized and vulnerable, is severely affected by the health situation. The aim of the operations is to provide essential assistance in access to water and hygiene.

Firstly, the slums benefit from drinking water connections that allow them to collect water daily and without fear. These installations are set up by qualified teams specialized in water infrastructure issues.

In addition to providing access to water points, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL teams support the population in matters of hygiene. Kits containing basic necessities (soap, shampoo, jerry cans, wipes, toothbrushes, razors, diapers, etc.) are distributed to families to improve their hygiene conditions.
