WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A REGIONAL DELEGATE FOR SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL?
A regional delegate is a volunteer member of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL who develops and supervises the activities of his or her delegation of volunteers, whose objective is to promote the visibility and awareness of the NGO within a given territory.
In concrete terms, this means participating in local or regional events to highlight the actions of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL and its advocacy. These events, whether they are of a solidarity, cultural or sporting nature, are always a good opportunity to talk to the general public about the difficulties that many people around the world are experiencing and the solutions that exist to remedy them.
We also intervene in schools in order to carry out playful and interactive awareness-raising activities: we try to explain with games and simple words the issues at stake in SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s fight. It is also a question of making people understand, at our level, the importance of solidarity in our societies.
Finally, a regional delegate may be required to accompany SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL’s salaried teams in its field actions in France. Since the COVID-19 crisis, for example, we have had the opportunity to take part in various operations in a shanty town in Nantes: needs assessment, installation of water networks, distribution of hygiene kits… A particularly enriching experience!
DO I NEED SPECIAL SKILLS TO BECOME A REGIONAL DELEGATE?
No specific expertise or knowledge is required! All that is required is the desire to communicate and to contribute to the organization’s mission according to one’s possibilities.
YOU HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL FOR TWO YEARS NOW. ARE YOU STILL AS MOTIVATED AS EVER?
Yes, and even more so. I was able to discover from the inside how it works, its professionalism and its spirit and I am very proud to be part of it.
ARE YOU CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS?
Yes, we are! For the moment, this search concerns the two existing regional delegations, Pays de la Loire and Brittany, but will soon concern more regions, to meet the ambitions of the association to develop its network of volunteers in France.
