Context

Cameroon is the victim of a structural and multidimensional humanitarian crisis marked by the interweaving of security, health, climate and socio-economic shocks.

Armed violence, protracted displacement, the effects of climate change (floods and droughts), epidemics and the continuous deterioration of access to essential basic services and livelihoods are leading to poverty and food insecurity, particularly in the Far North, the most vulnerable region of the country, and in the North-West and South-West regions.  facing a persistent armed conflict since 2016. 

These factors aggravate the country’s structural fragilities and accentuate the vulnerability of the population, who are forced to revert to repeated displacement. In addition, the rising cost of living, pressure on basic social services, and difficulties in accessing humanitarian assistance are limiting the ability of vulnerable households to recover sustainably.  

In this context, humanitarian needs remain high and are unfortunately largely underfunded.

In 2025, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL continued and strengthened its actions in the Far North of Cameroon to support the most vulnerable populations through an integrated approach combining crisis prevention, emergency response, recovery and strengthening the resilience of populations.

With the support of the CDCS, the organization has improved access to water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) with a focus on the rehabilitation of water infrastructure and the strengthening of water service management.  

In addition, the mission while strengthening food and nutrition security through the distribution of agricultural inputs and the provision of training on good agricultural practices for the most vulnerable.  

Thanks to DG ECHO funding, the organisation is providing food assistance and kits for the development of emergency income- enerating activities, notably through the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM and post-RRM), to meet the immediate needs of displaced and host populations affected by security and climate shocks. 

The interventions supported by DG ECHO also aim to make a sustainable contribution to food and nutrition security in the Lake Chad Basin, the identification and referral of cases of protection and severe acute malnutrition, while strengthening the capacities of municipalities in terms of prevention, preparedness and management of risks and climate and security shocks.  

Finally, through the project financed by AFD, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is working to strengthen the capacities of agricultural groups, village savings and loan associations, water point management committees and communal water funds, thus promoting local economic development and the socio-economic integration of rural women and youth in the Mayo-Tsanaga departments of Logone-et-Chari and Mayo-Sava.
