PRESS RELEASES

03/01/05 : The charity "Solidarités" brings aid to Sri Lanka and Indonesia

SOLIDARITES, an emergency humanitarian aid association, has chartered an aeroplane which will leave on Thursday for Sri Lanka, and will be received by the association's team upon its arrival.
This aeroplane notably contains 7,5 tons of vitamin-enriched biscuits, 4 tons of plastic covers, 5,000 jerry cans, pumps and drinking water tanks, generators and 4X4 vehicles. The distribution of these aid supplies will take place as from Friday for the families that survived the tidal wave in the small villages situated on the east coast of the island. In parallel, a hydraulics specialist will carry out water evaluations so as to quickly increase the drinking water supplies and to prevent the risk of epidemics.
In addition, a second SOLIDARITES team is set to leave on Thursday for areas which have not yet received assistance in the Banda Aceh region in the north of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.

SOLIDARITES would like to stress that the extent of the catastrophe and the number of homeless, currently estimated at 5 million, requires further international aid and co-ordination between the different players, notably with the various authorities concerned. Humanitarian aid is still far from meeting the needs of the homeless peoples, who have lost everything. And furthermore we already need to start thinking about the reconstruction of homes, and supporting the reconstruction of the economic fabric.
We would like to thank in advance all those individuals, local administrations and companies who by their support will enable us to send a second aircraft loaded with aid to Sri Lanka, and another to Indonesia.
