You make
a commitment to adhere to the principles and values contained in
SOLIDARITES' Charter,
and to accept the regulations in force in the field. You make a
commitment to provide tangible and efficient humanitarian assistance
to women, children and men who have, in most cases, lost everything,
and who have suffered. You make a commitment to serve them, to make
sure that the assistance you provide meets their needs as closely
as possible. You make a commitment to take on important and demanding
responsibilities. You make a commitment to live and work in a foreign
country, to tolerate relatively unconfortable and insecure living
conditions, and to accept the trials and tribulations of life and
work as part of a team, working towards a common goal.
To work together, welcome to SOLIDARITES. |

In
each country, the Solidarités team comprises two types
of volunteers,
generalists and specialists.
Generalists
These volunteers are responsible for the overall running of Solidarités'
"mission" in a given country. They hold the positions
of mission leader, administrative coordinator, and logistics coordinator.
These roles require several years of professional experience,
as well as a proven capacity for human resources and project management.
Previous experience with another humanitarian organisation is
highly appreciated. Mission leaders in particular must have solid
field experience, and well-proven human qualities since they oversee
the whole team and act as the official representative of Solidarités
in the field.
Specialists
These volunteers are responsible for specific technical aspects
of one or several programmes. They therefore have an essentially
operational role, however their expertise is called upon in the
preparation of projects and reports. Examples of specialists are:
nutritionists, civil and hydraulics engineers, agronomists. Once
again, these positions require competence in human resouces management.

The
volunteer's status
When you become
a SOLIDARITES volunteer, you sign a contract with our organisation.
As a volunteer you choose to place your skills at
the disposal of civilians in need, through our organisation.
Our volunteers are not salaried, however they receive an
indemnity. This indemnity amounts to 5-6000 FF per
month and is paid in France. Day to day living expenses
in the field are paid for by Solidarités. A perdiem
(equivalent to 1000 FF per month) is allocated to each
volunteer in the field to cover various costs.
Solidarités also takes care of the volunteer's insurance
(health, repatriation, ...), and travel to and from the
country to which he/she is posted.
Each volunteer is generally posted for one year, this posting
can be extended if it is justifiable and possible.
One 15-day vacation period in France is granted to each
volunteer half-way through his/her posting, and the two-way
journey for this purpose is paid for by Solidarités.
In certain countries where living conditions are particularly
demanding (Afghanistan, Burundi, DRC) one week's holiday
is arranged in a neighbouring country 3 months into the
posting.
