Working in the Field

Joining a humanitarian mission means taking on important responsibilities and being able to supervise and train national teams. Good intentions are not enough. This is why we look for people who can contribute technical knowledge (water and sanitation, agriculture, rehabilitation), organizational skills (support for management/administration, Human Resources, logistics) and team management.

The term of commitment is initially one year, depending on the position and geographical region. It can be renewed according to the situation and requirements.

During the mission, alternate work/rest periods are organized by SOLIDARITÉS. There are breaks between two work periods, with one break every three months as follows: for a one year assignment, expats get a one-week break at three months and at nine months (with a contribution of 500 euros from SOLIDARITÉS); after 6 months, a 15 - day break and return to France (departure and return fares subsidized by SOLIDARITÉS).

Traineeships can also be offered in the field, working on our programmes. The terms of such internships (insurance, travelling costs, breaks and per diem) are the same as for a voluntary contract.
Trainees do not receive a monthly allowance apart from the per diem, which is paid on-site. A traineeship agreement (convention de stage) is obligatory.

Volunteers

The first assignment is usually a voluntary contract. Volunteers receive a monthly allowance net of national insurance and tax (i.e. volunteers do not make contributions to unemployment benefits or pensions).

The allowance is based on the volunteer's professional experience:

  • 0-1 year humanitarian work experience: 800 euros per month
  • 1-2 years humanitarian work experience: 900 euros per month

Traineeships can also be offered in the field, working on our programmes. The terms of such internships (insurance, travelling costs, breaks and per diem) are the same as for a voluntary contract.Trainees do not receive a monthly allowance apart from the per diem, which is paid on-site. A traineeship agreement (convention de stage) is obligatory.

Employees

Coordination positions are salaried positions (fixed-term contract) since they require a higher level of experience. The salary for coordinators starts at 1700 euros gross; country directors start at 2100 euros gross, with an increase of 100 euros per year of employment. Other positions, apart from coordination positions, may also be salaried (starting at 1400 euros gross) based on the level of responsibility.

Stages of Recruitment

  • If your application is accepted, you will be contacted by e-mail or telephone for an interview and a technical test at SOLIDARITÉS, depending on the position you have applied for: the test can be on administrative and financial management, logistics, food security, water and sanitation or program management.
  • An English oral test will take place during the interview.
  • Depending on the test results, the interview and needs in the field, you will be offered a position. If you wish to accept, we will invite you to a pre-departure training session. These sessions are part of our recruitment program and will clarify your job description. During this session your file will be prepared and your date of departure will be set.
